Flights to Spain from Stockholm
From Stockholm, Vueling flies direct to 21 destinations in Spain. Barcelona is around 3 hours away, and from there the rest of the country opens up: the Mediterranean, Andalusia, the islands and the Atlantic north.
Nothing gets you a change of scenery and temperature faster from Sweden. What really shapes the trip is which of the 4 Spains you choose: the cities, the Mediterranean coast, the islands or the green north.
What documents you need to travel to Spain
Spain and Sweden are both part of the European Union and the Schengen Area, so Swedish and other EU citizens only need a valid national ID card or passport, with no visa.
Make sure it has not expired before you book, because you cannot board with an out-of-date document. The European Health Insurance Card covers public healthcare during your stay and is worth taking with you. If you travel on a passport from a non-EU country, check your case on the travel documents page before confirming.
What to know when you land in Spain
From the airport into the city. The main airports are well connected, so there is no need to book a transfer. In Barcelona, metro line 9 Sud and the Aerobús reach the centre in under half an hour. In Madrid, the metro and Cercanías commuter trains link the terminals with Atocha. In Malaga, the commuter train serves the city centre and the Costa del Sol, and in Palma the shuttle bus covers the 8 km to the old town.
Swedish kronor are not accepted. Spain uses the euro. Cards work almost everywhere, even in small shops, so the practical option is to pay by card or take out euros from a cash machine when you arrive, rather than changing money before you leave.
Mealtimes. This is the biggest change from Sweden. Lunch in Spain is between 14:00 and 16:00 and dinner starts from 21:00, with many kitchens closed until then. Dinner at 18:00 simply does not happen, so adjust your plans on the first day.
High-speed rail. Madrid and Barcelona are around 2 and a half hours apart, and lines run from Madrid to Seville, Malaga and Valencia. The stations sit right in the city centres, so you can link 2 or 3 destinations without going back to the airport.
Spain uses plugs with 2 round pins, types C and F, at 230V.
What to do in Spain
Barcelona and Catalonia
Barcelona brings together the Sagrada Familia, Park Güell and the Gothic Quarter, with a beach inside the city and the Boqueria market on La Rambla. Catalonia reaches well beyond its capital: the Costa Brava, the Penedès wineries and the Catalan Pyrenees are destinations in their own right.
Madrid and central Spain
Madrid packs the Prado, the Reina Sofía and the Thyssen into less than 1 km, with historic markets and neighbourhoods such as Malasaña and La Latina for the evening. Toledo, Segovia and Salamanca are less than an hour away by train.
Andalusia
Seville has the Real Alcázar, the Giralda, flamenco and courtyards lined with azulejo tiles. Granada is home to the Alhambra and the Generalife, while Malaga has the Picasso Museum, the Alcazaba and the Costa del Sol, with Cabo de Gata further east.
The Balearic and Canary Islands
Palma de Mallorca pairs coves of turquoise water with the Serra de Tramuntana, a World Heritage Site. Menorca is quieter and more natural, and Ibiza has both the nightlife and the coves of the north. Tenerife and Gran Canaria let you leave the Swedish winter behind for a milder climate, with Mount Teide as the landmark.
Luggage for your flight to Spain
What you can take depends on the fare you choose when booking. The simplest fare includes a personal item that fits under the seat in front, and from there you can add cabin or checked luggage.
Sports equipment, musical instruments and bulky items have their own conditions, so check them before you complete your booking. You will find the current rules in Vueling’s luggage policy.

How long is the flight from Stockholm to Spain?
It depends on where you are heading. A direct flight from Stockholm to Barcelona or Madrid takes around 3 hours. Flights to Malaga or Palma de Mallorca are closer to 3 and a half hours, and the Canary Islands are the longest routes because of their distance from mainland Europe.
