Flights to France from Marrakech
From Marrakech, Vueling flies direct to 6 French cities: Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Bordeaux and Nantes. The flight to Paris takes around 3 hours and 20 minutes, and the destinations in the south are closer still.
At those distances, flight time hardly matters: the real question is where to land. The north, the French Riviera, the Rhône valley and the Atlantic coast make for very different trips, and the airport you pick shapes everything that follows.
What documents you need to travel to France
France is part of the Schengen Area. For Moroccan citizens, that means an application before you travel, and it is best started several weeks ahead.
This is what usually applies to Moroccan nationals:
- A Schengen visa, applied for before the trip at the French consulate or embassy in Morocco. Processing times vary, and they are what decides when you need to start planning the trip.
- A valid passport, valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended date of departure from the Schengen Area and issued within the previous 10 years.
- Proof of accommodation: a booking, a letter of invitation or a tenancy agreement.
- Proof of sufficient funds for your stay.
- Travel insurance with medical cover, required in order to apply for the visa.
If you hold the nationality of a European Union country or are resident in one, different conditions apply. Check the current information on the travel documents page and with the relevant consulate before you book.
As this flight departs from outside the Schengen Area, you will go through passport control before boarding. Allow for that extra time at the airport.
What to know when you land in France
From the airport into town. Paris is the one that needs planning. Its airports are a long way from the city and the journey by train or bus takes around an hour, so check it before you book accommodation. Nice is the opposite, with the airport right next to the Promenade and the tram reaching the centre in a few minutes. Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux and Nantes all have a shuttle or a direct tram from the terminal.
The TGV. The high-speed network makes it easy to get around the country from different arrival points. Paris and Lyon are around 2 hours apart, and Marseille is a little over 3 hours from the capital. Because the stations are in the city centres, you can start your trip in one city and finish it in another without going back to where you began.
Climate by region. Paris and the north are cool and rainy for much of the year, with winters hovering around 0°C. The Mediterranean south, from Marseille to Nice, has dry summers and a persistent wind, the mistral. The contrast with Morocco’s climate is sharper in the north than in the south.
Mealtimes. Kitchens serve lunch between 12:00 and 14:00 and dinner from 19:30, and many close after 22:00. Outside those hours it is hard to get a table, especially in smaller towns.
France uses the euro. Plug sockets are types C and E, at 230V.
What to do in France
Paris and the north
Paris packs the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, Notre-Dame and the Eiffel Tower into an area you can cover on foot, with Le Marais, Montmartre and Saint-Germain-des-Prés as neighbourhoods to get lost in. The Palace of Versailles is half an hour away by suburban train. To the north-west, Normandy and Mont-Saint-Michel can be reached by rail.
The French Riviera and Provence
In Nice you land right by the sea, and the coastal train reaches Cannes, Antibes and Monaco in under an hour. Marseille is the gateway to Provence: Calanques National Park, Aix-en-Provence and Avignon with its Palace of the Popes.
Lyon and the Alps
Lyon has a well-earned name as a food capital, with its bouchons and the Renaissance quarter of Vieux-Lyon, a World Heritage Site. The Alps are close by: Chamonix and Mont Blanc, Annecy and its lake, with skiing in winter and hiking in summer.
The Atlantic coast
Bordeaux has a historic centre that is a World Heritage Site, with the vineyards of the Médoc and Saint-Émilion less than an hour away and the Arcachon dunes on the coast. Nantes opens the way to Brittany and the Loire châteaux, and its Celtic culture catches many visitors by surprise.
Luggage for your flight to France
What you can take depends on the fare you choose when booking. The simplest fare includes a personal item that fits under the seat in front, and from there you can add cabin or checked luggage.
For a long trip, or if you are visiting family, sorting out your luggage when you book avoids surprises at the check-in desk. Check the current conditions in Vueling’s luggage policy.
