Steel, coal and beer have made Dortmund famous the world over. But today, this German city has broadened its horizons and music, art and creativity have become its main attractions.
The symbol of this new era for Dortmund is the gigantic “U” that crowns the former Union-Brauerei brewery, now the city's artistic and economic hub.
If you like shopping, be sure to take in the Old Market, Westenhellweg Street or the area known as Brückstraßenviertel. Then, stop off in one of the many cafés and taverns in the city centre to try its famous “golden beer”.
