Flights to VeniceFlights from Venice
Venice , La Serenissima, is one of the few cities in the world that take you back in time without any effort at all. Aside from being fascinating, its history is everywhere. Canals, palaces, and town squares are silent witnesses to the restless life of a city that was a mercantile power in medieval Europe and the Renaissance, as well as a powerful tourist destination since the 18th century. Since you have to go to Venice at some time in your life, Vueling takes you there.
Hotels in VeniceAs far as lodging is concerned, Venice can be ridiculously expensive, and on top of that, finding a room during some seasons can be impossible. It is strongly recommended that you always try to reserve a room well in advance, even if it's during low season. Here are a few hotels we suggest:
Ca' PisaniThis hotel is in a 16th century palace with rooms that are interestingly designed, exuding a certain sophistication and defined style from the 30's and 40's. Dorsoduro 979A, rio Terrà Foscarini
Agli AlborettiAn intimate and cosy alternative located in Dorsoduro. Despite the fact that we haven't tried it, they say the restaurant is trustworthy.Accademia 884 +39 041 523 0058 http://www.aglialboretti.com
Accademia Villa MaravegeIf you'd like something more comfortable and luxurious without paying an arm and a leg for it, this is your hotel. It's a magnificent 17th century villa with a lovely garden.Dorsoduro 1058, fondamenta Bollani +39 041 521 0188 http://www.pensioneaccademia.it Airport de Venice
The airport, Marco Polo, is located 12 km northeast of the city but the options of travelling to and from the city are varied. From the airport to downtown, you can take the number 5 bus (every half hour), which takes about 30 minutes and costs approximately 1 euro (you can buy your ticket at the newsstand in the terminal); the HYDROBUS (60 minutes), a taxi (15 minutes), or an aquatic taxi, which usually costs more than 70 euros. From all these options, the one we recommend most is the HYDROBUS, the Motoscafi Linea Alilaguna Rossa (red line), which goes through the canal and cost 10 euros.
The buses depart from the outside of the airport terminal. So that you won't get fined, always validate your Vaporetto (water bus tickets) and your bus tickets at the yellow machines.
Restaurants in VeniceIt is still possible to find unpretentious restaurants in La Serenissima. But, as with hotels, you must make a reservation well in advance.Harry'sA classic in Venice . Hemingway and Orson Welles were a few of its illustrious visitors. Even though it's a bit on the pricey side, it's probably the best place in Venice to have a delicious Bellini (peach juice and champagne). The panini are the more “financially sound” option at this place. 1323 San Marco, calle Vallaresso Al Nono RisorioIt's just about the best restaurant to eat an authentic pizza. It has a charming and refreshing terrace during the summer, but we recommend you bring mosquito repellent. Santa Croce 2338, sottoportico di Siora Bettina Anice StellatoLocated in the Cannaregio area, it serves delicious fish dishes. Cannaregio 3272, fondamenta della Sensa Business hours in VeniceNearly all of the stores are open from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm . Most stores dedicated to tourists remain open during lunch and on Sundays. Don't miss... in VeniceVenice is a very, but I mean very, photogenic city. Without a doubt, it will quickly make you fill up your camera's memory card. Begin your photographic marathon at the following places:Basilica di San MarcoThis spectacular church is a visible testament to the relationship between Venice and the Byzantine Empire . It was designed in accordance with the wishes of Doge Giustiniani Partecipazio, who wanted to construct a building grandiose enough and respectable enough to receive the body of San Marco il Evangelista, patron saint of the city, whose remains were brought to Venice from Alexandria , Egypt in the year 828AD.Gran CanalIt is the city's most important means of communication. Almost 400 metres in length and 30-70 metres in width, it divides the historic district in two parts. Travelling across it are the Venetian taxis and buses; the gondolas and the vaporetti. In the waves you can appreciate the most sublime palaces as you look down the canal. The palaces range in construction from medieval times to the 18th century.Palazzo DucaleThe Peggy Guggenheim CollectionThis collection fits the mould as the most important museum in Italy of American and European art of the first half of the 20th century. It is located in what used to be Peggy Guggenheim's home, the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni , on the Gran Canal. The eccentric niece of Solomon R. Guggenheim, one of the wealthiest businessmen and collectors of North American art, opened the doors of this museum in 1951. The collection presents Peggy's personal art collection from the 20th century, such as works from the collection of Gianni Mattioli. Biennale di VeneziaVenice 's Biennale has been, for more that a century, one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Since it's founding in 1895, it has promoted the development of new artistic trends and has organised international events in various disciplines in contemporary art.http://www.labiennale.org/ Online guides de VeniceOUR FAVOURITE ONLINE GUIDESIn Spanish: http://venecia.viajandopor.com/index.php
