Tenerife North airport (also called Los Rodeos) is 11 kilometres from Santa Cruz, in the municipality of San Cristóbal de la Laguna.

Tenerife South airport is situated 60 kilometres from the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, in the south of the island, where the main tourist area lies.

Getting around the island by car is incredibly easy and the roads are well signposted. However, if you don’t have your own vehicle, you can take a taxi anywhere. Prices vary according to your route. Here are some examples:

From Tenerife North airport:
€1.80 to La Laguna; €10-12 to Santa Cruz; €20-23 to Puerto de la Cruz and €52 to Tenerife South airport.

From Tenerife South airport
€10-11 to El Médano; €10-12 to Granadilla; €20-23 to Playa de las Américas; €60-62 to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and €65-75 to Tenerife North airport.

Business hours


Because it’s mainly a tourist island, Tenerife shop opening hours are more constant than in the rest of Spain (till 10pm) depending on the shop and the area. However, normal shop opening hours are 10am to 1.30pm and 5 to 8.30pm. On holidays and Sundays, only the shops situated in tourist areas tend to be open.

Teide volcano

In the centre of Tenerife island you’ll find Teide, Spain’s highest peak, 3,718 metres above sea level. Don’t miss this daytrip because it’s really worth seeing this huge volcano located in breathtaking Las Cañadas Natioinal Park. You can travel up to the station terminal of La Rambleta from 9am to 4pm.


Santa Cruz

The island’s capital is Santa Cruz de Tenerife. You have numerous points of interest in reach here: you can deepen your knowledge of Guanche culture by visiting the Canaries Archielogical Museum or explore all the city’s nooks and crannies, like the leafy Ramblas and its many sculptures. Keep walking until you reach the Simbólico, Tenerife’s impressive auditorium, the work of architect Santiago Calatrava.


San Cristóbal de La Laguna

This city is considered a World Heritage site by UNESCO because it is formed of 600 buildings of enormous architectural interest. Wandering through the historic city centre you’ll encounter churches, mansions, convents and more. Wear comfortable walking shoes and get ready to cover kilometres on foot!


Los Roques de Anaga

Total nature is what you’ll find in Los Roques de Anaga, a place of enormous scientific interest and environmental value. Take a stroll through the area and you’ll see streams, mountains and countless different species making up this incredible natural space.


La Orotava

In the north of the island is Orotava Valley, right in Teide’s foothills. This municipality is packed with mansions and stately houses forming a well preserved historic nucleus. Furthermore, it offers amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean.


La Orotava historic centre

In the Villa de la Orotava historic centre you can visit a very well preserved historic town centre. It was declared a centre of historical and artistic value because it combines streets packed with history and houses numerous hermitages, churches and squares.


El Drago Milenario [1000-year-old Drago tree]

Icod de los Vinos is the site of the largest, oldest drago tree known. A visit is almost compulsory if you’re at all curious about its 17-metre height and 20-metre base. The Drago Milenario is specially protected, but if you want, you can be photographed next to it. Just see how small you look!
