1. What is the minimum experience required for direct Captain entry?

2. What is the minimum experience required for a First Officer entry?

Either you are A320 Type rated or A320 non-type rated First Officers applicants, the minimum flight hours is 1500.

3. What kind of contract do I get (permanent/temporary)?

You will get a permanent contract with a 6-month trial period.

4. Once hired, what salary can I expect?

5. What would be my taxation rate?

The taxation rate in Spain varies from person to person.
The fiscal Spanish regulation links the taxation rate to the quantity of annual earnings and as a consequence, it is very difficult to give a clear indication. Currently, the taxation rate varies from 15% until 32% for high levels of remuneration.

6.What is the A320 Type rating program price?

The A320 Type rating program is self-sponsored at Vueling.
  • 24.000 € for A320 Airbus ground school plus simulator sessions. Includes a skill test LPC.
  • 2.000€ for Entry Level Training : required only for trainees with no jet experience. It is held prior to the Type Rating and consists on 4 training days (1 day ground school + 3 simulator sessions FBS).
  • 10.000€ maximum expected cost for the base training . This cost will vary according to the time it takes to perform the training. The base training cost for a conversion course is around 7.000€

7. How much does the OPC cost? Does Vueling pay the OPC?

The price of the OPC is 2.995€ and consists on 4 days training (2 days ground school + 1 FFS session with SFI + 1 check under TRE supervision). If remedial training is needed each session cost will be 995€.
All A320 Type-rated applicants need to perform the OPC.
Vueling is not paying currently for the OPC.

8. What are the minimum requirements to apply to Vueling?

  • JAA License (CPT, ATPL, FO: theoretical ATPL with a valid CPL)
  • Over 1500 hrs total Flight Time
  • Instrumental Rating
  • Multi Engine Rating
  • Medical Certificate JAR FCL 3 (class 1)
  • Fluency in English
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus
  • Unrestricted right to live and work in the EU

9. From what stage in the program will I get paid?

You will be effectively hired (and paid) by Vueling once you get the Type Rating, the approved license as required by Civil Aviation and you get a roster program. So, the entry date is subject to Vueling entry calendar. Vueling tries to minimize the time between the end of the type-rating course and the entry date.

10. What bases are available?

Barcelona and Madrid.

11. Will I get my preferred base?

Your preferences will be factored in the decision, although Vueling will decide depending on each base's pace expansion and pilot-mix needs (experience, position…). Bases changes are allowed.

12. How does the roster look like (5 on 3 off etc.) ?

Vueling is currently operating under a 5-on/3-off scheme.

13. Which is the workload at Vueling? How many duty hours, stand by, flight hours per month?

Because of Vueling efficient operation, the average flight hours per month are 81h with just 120 duty hours, giving our pilots the opportunity to enjoy 11 days off every month (not including stand-by) which is among the best in European airlines.

14. If I do this investment, will Vueling guarantee a job?

Vueling will issue an Offer Letter expressing its intention to hire you if you satisfactorily complete the recruitment process, obtain the license and ratings required and satisfactorily completes the required training to operate Vueling's aircrafts.

15. How does the FO career development program look like? How much time does it take to flight on the left seat?

Vueling is a meritocracy, and promotion is strictly based on performance. First Officers with more than 3,000 total hours and 500 hours on type can apply for a Fast Track Captain position after 6 months flying as a Vueling First Officer. Others First Officers can expect to enter the Captain Evaluation Process within the first 2-3 years in Vueling. There is a strong culture of promoting within the company.

Please take into account that Vueling is in a process of an important fleet growing expansion, which means that you, as F/O can reach the Captain position much quicker than in other airlines.

As an example, some of the pilots that entered in the company as a F/O has promoted to Captain after 7 months within Vueling and with a total 500 hours within Vueling.

16. How does the Captain Career Development Program look like?

With our scheduled aircraft deliveries and expansion plans line training, TRI's and TRE's Captains positions are highly valued within the Company. In that sense, clear advancement payment levels have been established to reward the commitment shown by our Captains.

17. What is the maximum age for applicants?

F/O 45 years.
For type-rated Captains there is not a maximum age.
For non type-rated Captains the maximum age is 55 years.

18. Can I apply as a non EU-pilot?

NO.

19. Can I apply to Vueling with a non-JAA license? If not, how can I convert my license?

YES but in order you are able to pass through the recruitment process, you need to obtain the required validation with Spanish Civil Aviation Authorities.

Once you obtain your JAR license (permanent or limited), you will be eligible for the training program.


20. Does the A320 type rating program price include living costs?

Regarding living costs and transportation while you are being trained , there are special agreements with Hotel and Apart hotels nearby the training facilities.

Apart-Hotel Solficus Alcalá de Henares (From 15-30 days breakfast included, 35€ per night).

Rental Car over 15 days, at around 40€ per day. Ford Focus Diesel or similar, 3-5 doors, Air Conditioning, AM/FM Stereo Cassette or CD, central locking. Full Insurance inclusive. Fuel excluded.

Living costs once you join Vueling will be at your expense if you start at home base.

21. What extra costs can I expect?

Once hired by Vueling, traveling to the assigned Vueling base is at your expense. Vueling can only provide staff tickets within its network.

22. Do you have a financing program for the Type rating program? If so, how can I join?

Such a program is arranged by CAE Madrid via some financing agreements with local banks aimed at financing your training courses.
